Get a real job Mr. Kalin!

'In Minnesota, members of the Legislature are "citizen legislators" and most have jobs outside the Legislature.'

This is taken directly from the Minnesota State Legislature web site. There exists certain provisions that protect the jobs of our 'citizen representatives' while they serve us at the capital so they can act as 'citizen legislators' and go back to their career jobs after the work at the capital has been completed.

Mr. Kalin does not need these provisions since his full time job is that of a member of the State House. He even lists this as his job on his blog site among other places.

When I asked Mr. Kalin about this last week when he knocked on my door asking for my support this fall, he became very defensive and actually beligerant as he stormed off down the sidewalk. He did admit that he hasn't collected a paycheck other than that paid by us to him as a member of the state legislature since becoming elected over two years ago.

I for one am tired of career politicians like Mr. Kalin and others, it is time to send these types packing and take great care in those that we select to serve as our elected representatives. We as the GOP in this district need to take great care to vett our prospective candidates both now and in the future.

We need to assure that we have good candidates like Don Taylor, a candidate who knows what it is like to hold a job, someone who knows what it feels like to pay property taxes in this district, and someone that will go to St. Paul to represent this district, get the job done in the best interest of the taxpayers of this district and the State of Minnesota, and then go back to his regular job when the work is done.

I am suspect of anyone who wants to be a politician so bad that they put getting elected before a real career. Politics was never supposed to be a career and too many have made careers of it. It is time for these career politicians to hear our call, it is time for you to get a real job!

So, are you saying the Rep. Kalin is getting paid more than other legislators? If I remember right, he actually got paid a lot LESS than most of his colleagues, taking one of the lowest per diem payments in the House.

I know for a fact that Jeremy worked for a local company in North Branch for several years, putting his architecture training to good use - and owned his own business for years before that.

At the worst, wouldn't Chisago County be getting a full-time legislator at a part-time salary? Seems like a great deal for us to have a legislator so attentive to resolving problems for us.

Ok, he owned his own business huh? I would be very interested in the full disclosure of his business experience.

That aside, he worked part time as a 'draftsman' for that company in North Branch, and as admitted to me at my house, has not worked for them since the election. The house convenes for approx 75 days, what did he do for the other 290 days of each year?

Oh and be careful of the low per diem defense, Mr. Kalin spent most of his time at his house in MINNEAPOLIS, therefore not requiring the expense reimbursement for travel back to his district! You don't need reimbursement for travel back and forth from your district when you live outside of that district for most of the year!!!!!

Your quote, "I for one am tired of career politicians like Mr. Kalin and others, it is time to send these types packing and take great care in those that we select to serve as our elected representatives."

I can understand your argument. Yet, you support Senator McCain for President? Could you explain please?

Now let's see if we understand all this information about Mr. Jeremy Kalin: The official legislative biographical sketch shows Jeremy Kalin was born in January 1975. That makes him 33 years of age.

Anonymous on August 04, 2008 asserts that "I know for a fact that Jeremy worked for a local company in North Branch for several years, putting his architecture training to good use -and owned his own business for years before that."

Mr. Jeremy Kalin's biographical listing in the Minnesota House of Representatives shows that Mr. Kalin was a "Designer/Draftsman for Natural Spaces Domes in North Branch, MN" from "April 2004 - November 2006" and that he was "Faculty" at "Watershed High School" - the location or address of that school is not listed but indicates that Kalin was there from "September 1996 to June 2000" with the parenthetical explanation "(3 years 10 months)."
Mr. Kalin owes an explanation of what he taught, what his credentials are that qualified him to teach on the high school level and why he left the teaching position or profession after only "four years."

Mr. Kalin claims seven years education at the "University of Minnesota-Twin Cities (from) 1992 -1999. He also claims attendance at "The University of New Mexico."

Elsewhere it is claimed that he is also a student at William Mitchell College of Law. (see Wm. Mitchell College of Law news release). On top of all this he "owned his own business" we are told.

The questions that comes out of this recitation of Kalin's supposed education, employment and experience is whether there is an "inflation" of his education and achievements.
Mr. Kalin would be advised and requested to put dates and places to remove uncertainties and doubts as to his education, employment, graduations.

And finally, Mr. Kalin is requested to tell the public his official place of residence - whether it is Minneapolis or some of the several moveable places in Chisago county where he has claimed residence at one time or another.
